Client: New York State Children’s Environmental Health Centers Summer Academy

Role: Co-Facilitator (2022) and Student (2021)

The New York State Children’s Environmental Health Centers Summer Academy is an eight-week summer program for high school, college, and medical students. The program focuses on developing future leaders in pediatric environmental health through academic lectures, team-building exercises, and student-led advocacy projects designed to target a specific pediatric environmental health issue.

Projects:

Co-facilitator (2022)

  • Led small-group advocacy projects focused on climate change and human health, specifically dermal exposures for children and adolescents

  • Prepared small group meetings with co-facilitator to facilitate and review projects and to delegate tasks

  • Collaborated with practitioners from New York State Children’s Environmental Health Centers to expand knowledge of environmental health and develop health communication skills for high school, college, and medical students

Student (2021)

  • Completed an advocacy project focused on safer cleaning messaging for asthma patients with a group of medical, college, and high school students, which was featured in the American Academy of Pediatrics in Action NYS Chapter 1 November 2021 newsletter

  • Attended lectures from leading pediatric environmental health specialists from New York State
